If your mobile is stolen or misplaced, you have to register the complaint on CEIR Portal official website and inform C-DOT through helpline number 14422. Thus, the central government will now help you find and block your lost or stolen mobile phone through IMEI verification. At present this scheme is only for Delhi and Maharashtra but according to the central government this scheme will be implemented in the whole country soon.

With a view to curb the counterfeit mobile phone market and discourage mobile phone theft, protect consumer interest and facilitate law enforcement officers to streamline law and order, DoT intends to access the IMEI database of all mobile operators. The joining is to implement the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR). How CEIR Portal Helps in Locating Stolen Phones

  • First of all, the person whose mobile phone is lost or stolen, he has to file an FIR in the nearest police station.
  • After this the person has to inform the DoT through a helpline number 14422.
  • After the police complaint, DoT (DEPARTMENT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS) will blacklist the IMEI number. This will block the handset to access any mobile network in future.

  • File a report with the police, and keep a copy of the report.
  • Get Duplicate SIM Card for Lost Number from your Telecom Service Provider (Airtel, Jio, Voda/Idea, BSNL etc.).
  • Prepare your documents – A copy of the police report and an identity proof must be provided. You can also provide mobile purchase invoice.
  • Fill out the request registration form and attach the required documents to block the IMEI of the lost/stolen phone.

  • After submitting the form you will be given a request ID, this can be used to check the status of your request and unblock IMEI in future.

Unblock Lost Mobile

  • To unblock your detected mobile you have to visit CEIR official website https://ceir.gov.in/ will go on
  • Now go to “CEIR Services” option available in the menu bar of the opened page
  • A drop-down list will appear on the screen from where you have to select “Un-Block found mobile” option
  • A new page appears with the form where you have to enter the details such as request ID, mobile number which you provide while blocking, a reason for unblocking and mobile number for OTP.
  • Select GET OTP option and you will receive an OTP via SMS
  • Enter OTP and click on “Submit” option to submit the request

  • Now go to “CEIR Services” option available in the menu bar of the opened page
  • A drop-down list will appear on the screen from where you will be asked to “check request status, have to choose the option
  • A new page appears with the form where you have to enter the request id and click on submit option
  • Your request status will appear on the computer screen

  • On the home page, you have to click on the application link Now you have to select IMEI Verification
