Atal Pension Yojana is also one of the public security schemes launched by the PM Modi government. The objective of Atal Pension Yojana is to provide social security in old age. The plan offers a minimum of Rs.1000 and a maximum of Rs.5000 per month after the age of 60 years.
To ensure that older Indians worry about their expenditure on food or illness, therefore Atal Pension Yojana was launched and it has proved to be a very good initiative till now, National Pension Scheme is active from 1st June 2015. This scheme is specially for the people working or employed in the private sector where the employer does not offer pension in old age. Such people can enroll in the scheme to get pension benefits ranging from Rs 1000 to 5000 on attaining the age of 60 years.

Eligibility for Atal Pension Yojana 2021-22
- Any Indian citizen between 18 to 40 years is eligible to participate in this scheme. The plan requires an individual to contribute for a minimum period of 20 years before availing pension benefits.
- To participate in the scheme, the applicant must have a savings bank account and must not be a member of any statutory social security scheme.
- All the existing members of Swavalamban Yojana NPS Lite who did not gain much popularity automatically migrated to Atal Pension Yojana.
- Applicant should not be a tax payer of the country.

How to enroll in Atal Pension Yojana
To enroll for the scheme, the applicant must have a savings bank account with any bank across the country. The account holder should submit a formally filled authorization form to the bank.
The authorization form requires complete details of the applied candidate like name, address, account details, nominee details, contribution amount and consent for auto debit of the amount.

The account holders should maintain that sufficient amount which is more than the contribution amount in order not to affect the auto debit.
If the account does not have a minimum balance for auto debit, it will attract a monthly penalty
- INR 1 for monthly contribution up to Rs.100
- INR 2 for monthly contributions between INR 101 and INR 500
- INR 5 for monthly contributions between INR 501 and INR 1,000
- INR 10 for monthly contribution beyond Rs 1,001
If the monthly contribution is not made continuously for 6 months, the account will be frozen. The account will be deactivated if no payment is made for 12 months or the account will be closed in case of non-payment for 24 months.
Applicants who do not have a bank account should first open a bank account using their KYC documents or Aadhar card and then submit the APY proposal form.
