Taipei City Robot Dog Sparks Security ConcernsSaralnama

On 27 Aug 2025, Taipei City council introduced a robot dog to help patrol pedestrian areas. The robot, equipped with 360-degree cameras, was made by Chinese company Unitree, linked to China’s military. Opposition councillor Chien Shu-pei called it a 'Trojan horse' threatening national security. The council said it bought one robot as a trial and the camera system was made by a Taiwanese firm. Taipei’s mayor said the city and central government would discuss the security issues. Taiwan has strict laws on Chinese technology due to ongoing tensions with China.
