On 27 Aug 2025, a gunman opened fire at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis during a children’s Mass. Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed and 17 others injured. The attacker, 23-year-old Robin Westman, died by suicide at the scene. Westman was a former student of the adjacent school. The FBI is investigating the case as an anti-Catholic hate crime. A 10-year-old survivor said his friend saved him by covering him and getting injured. Police found three legally purchased firearms and a smoke bomb. The motive remains unknown. A vigil was held for the victims, and officials, including Pope Leo XIV and US leaders, expressed sorrow. Injured victims are expected to recover. (Updated 28 Aug 2025, 17:13 IST; source: link)
