Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tokyo, Japan on 29 August 2025 for a two-day trip to attend the 15th IndiaJapan Annual Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. This is Modi's first standalone visit to Japan in nearly seven years and his eighth visit overall. The summit will focus on strengthening defence ties, cooperation in technology including AI and semiconductors, and expanding Japan's role in India's bullet train projects, especially the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor. Japan plans to invest heavily in India’s economy and take in more Indian tech talent. After Japan, PM Modi will travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin and hold talks with leaders including Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin.
