A 15-year-old boy was sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention for shooting Colombian senator Miguel Uribe Turbay during a campaign rally in Bogotá on [7 [June 2025. The senator, aged 39, was hit by three bullets and died on 11 August after multiple surgeries. The boy was charged with attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms. Five others were also arrested in connection with the attack, including suspected criminal Élder José Arteaga Hernandez. Police believe a dissident group of former FARC rebels was behind the assassination.
