On 25 Aug 2025, the US imposed 50% tariffs on Indian exports amid stalled trade talks. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said both countries want to resolve issues and keep communication open. He noted the US has the upper hand but expects a deal by May or June 2026. India continues buying Russian oil, which the US criticizes.
