Susan Monarez was removed as director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on 27 Aug 2025. She served less than one month after Senate confirmation. Her lawyers said she was targeted for refusing to approve unscientific vaccine policy changes pushed by US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Following her departure, three senior CDC officials resigned, citing politicization of public health and censorship of science. The Health Department gave no reason for Monarez’s exit but thanked her for service. The resignations have caused concern about the future of the CDC’s leadership and vaccine policies in the US.
