Nazi-Looted Painting Vanishes After Argentina Police Raid

A painting stolen by Nazis during World War II was seen in an Argentinian house ad but disappeared after police raided the home near Buenos Aires. The artwork, Portrait of a Lady by Giuseppe Ghislandi, belonged to Jewish art dealer Jacques Goudstikker. It was found hanging in a house owned by the daughter of a Nazi officer who fled to Argentina. Police found no painting but seized weapons and suspect smuggling. The painting was missing when police entered, replaced by a large rug. The painting's history traces back to Nazi looting and post-war hiding. Goudstikker's family aims to recover all stolen art. The case highlights ongoing efforts to reclaim art taken during the Holocaust. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 23:14 IST; source: link)
