Spiky Dinosaur Spicomellus Afer Discovered in Morocco
Saralnama

Scientists found a dinosaur named Spicomellus afer in Morocco. It lived 165 million years ago and had metre-long spikes on its neck. This dinosaur is the oldest known ankylosaur, a group of armoured dinosaurs. The spikes were fused to its bones, which is very unusual. The dinosaur was about four metres long and weighed two tonnes. Experts say it looked like a punk rocker with its spiky armour. The discovery may change ideas about how these dinosaurs evolved. It suggests ankylosaurs started with complex spikes and later had simpler armour. The fossils were found by a farmer near Boulemane town. This is the first ankylosaur found in Africa. The research was published in the journal Nature on 27 Aug 2025. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 21:34 IST; source: link)
