A 20-year-old man from Melbourne, Younes Ali Younes, was charged for the December 2024 arson attack on the Adass Israel Synagogue. He appeared in court on 27 Aug 2025 and was remanded in custody. The attack involved three masked men setting fire inside the synagogue, causing damage and injuring a worshipper. Younes will appear again in court on 4 December with co-accused Giovanni Laulu. Australian authorities accuse Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of directing this attack and a similar one in Sydney, but Iran denies the claims. The case is treated as terrorism, with serious charges including arson and reckless conduct. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation says it has credible evidence of Iran’s involvement.
