Today, FEMA suspended over 20 workers who signed a letter criticizing the Trump administration. The letter said the administration reversed progress made after Hurricane Katrina. It was signed by 191 current and former FEMA staff, with 36 naming themselves. Suspended workers were placed on paid leave and told not to do official work but remain available during business hours. The agency did not call this a punishment. The letter also opposed budget cuts and ending climate change research. Some suspended workers were helping flood relief in Texas. A group supporting the workers called the suspensions illegal and said it was retaliation for speaking out. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 14:55 IST; source: link)
