Snow Flurries and Cold Weather in South-Eastern Australia
Saralnama

From 25 Aug 2025, cold fronts brought snow flurries to four Australian states. Victoria and New South Wales saw 50cm to 80cm of snow, with some areas getting up to a metre. Snow fell as low as 300m in Tasmania, 600m in Victoria, and 700m in NSW. Places like the Grampians, Macedon Ranges, and Dandenong Ranges in Victoria and central tablelands near Orange in NSW were affected. South Australia had rare snow in the Flinders and Mount Lofty Ranges. Temperatures dropped below zero in the Australian Alps from Thursday to Saturday. Strong winds and wet weather hit south-eastern Australia, but no more rain was expected in flood-hit northern tablelands. This cold weather marked a chilly start to spring, with temperatures up to 12°C below normal. Meanwhile, sea surface temperatures remained warmer than usual, increasing moisture and storm risks. Severe weather warnings were issued for parts of Victoria and NSW during this period. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 11:39 IST; source: link)
