A painting stolen by Nazis from a Jewish art dealer in Amsterdam was found in Argentina. The artwork, Portrait of a Lady by Giuseppe Ghislandi, was seen in a house near Buenos Aires. The house once belonged to a senior Nazi officer who fled to South America after World War II. The painting was taken from Jacques Goudstikker, who helped Jews escape during the war. After his death, Nazis forced a sale of his art collection. Some works were recovered, but this painting was missing until now. The painting was spotted when the house was put up for sale by the officer's daughter. Experts say the painting is genuine. The family of Goudstikker plans to reclaim the artwork. Another stolen painting was also found on social media linked to the officer's family. Attempts to contact the family have not succeeded so far. (Updated 26 Aug 2025, 23:17 IST; source: link)
