The Jharkhand Assembly witnessed protests on August 25, 2025, as BJP leader Babulal Marandi and party members demanded a CBI investigation into the death of Surya Narayan Hansda, who allegedly died in a police encounter. The BJP and its allies staged the protest during the supplementary Monsoon session in Ranchi. Meanwhile, MLAs from the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress protested against the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which bars Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Ministers from holding office if jailed for 30 days or more. The session was disrupted with members raising slogans in the Well despite repeated calls from Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato to return to their seats, leading to an adjournment until 12 p.m. Surya Hansda, who had contested multiple Assembly polls, was arrested on August 10 in Deoghar and allegedly died during an encounter while being taken to Rahadbadia Hills to recover hidden weapons. Police stated Hansda snatched a weapon and fired at them while attempting to flee, prompting them to retaliate, resulting in his death. (Updated 25 Aug 2025, 13:11 IST; source: link)
