6 out of 11 West Africans deported from the US to Ghana have been sent to Togo, their lawyers said. The group was suing Ghana's government to stop further deportation. Only 3 of those sent to Togo are Togolese. The lawyers have withdrawn their case against Ghana but are still pursuing a separate case for rights violations. The deportees include people from Nigeria, Togo, Liberia and The Gambia. They were sent to Ghana on a US military plane under a deal with the Ghanaian government. Ghana expects 40 more deportees soon. Opposition MPs want the US-Ghana agreement suspended until it's legally ratified. These deportations are part of the US government's strict immigration policy under President Trump. (Updated 24 Sep 2025, 16:01 IST; source: link)
