Since 25 September 2025, large protests led by young people erupted in Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo. They demanded reliable electricity and water due to frequent outages. The protests turned violent, causing at least 22 deaths and over 100 injuries. On 29 September, President Andry Rajoelina dissolved the government and dismissed the prime minister. Curfews and heavy police presence followed. Despite this, protests continued with police using tear gas. The unrest reflects deep frustration over poor services and governance. The president said a new cabinet will form soon. The situation remains tense as youth demand better living conditions and accountability. (Updated 2 Oct 2025, 23:27 IST; source: link)
