Uttarakhand Weather: Cold Sets In as Temperature Drops Daily, Here’s What to Expect Today

Dehradun, October 2024: With the arrival of October, winter has begun to make its presence felt in Uttarakhand. The cold has started knocking on the doors of the hill state as temperatures are gradually dropping each day, especially in higher altitude regions. The Meteorological Department has predicted a further dip in temperature in the coming days, signaling the early onset of winter.

Temperature Drop Across the State

In regions like Nainital, Mussoorie, and Chamoli, the chill in the air has become noticeable, with nighttime temperatures dropping significantly. Dehradun and Haridwar are also experiencing cooler mornings and evenings, though daytime temperatures remain mild.

The average temperature across Uttarakhand has seen a steady decline, with many areas recording a drop of 2-3°C over the past week. In popular hill stations such as Auli and Mukteshwar, temperatures are nearing the single digits at night.

Today’s Weather Forecast

  • Dehradun: The day will start with cool, pleasant weather, and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 22-24°C. As the evening approaches, the mercury will drop to around 12-14°C, making for a chilly night.
  • Nainital: Expect a crisp day with temperatures ranging between 8°C and 17°C. The weather will be clear, but the cold breeze will make it feel cooler, especially in the early morning and late evening hours.
  • Mussoorie: The weather will remain cool, with daytime temperatures around 18°C and dropping to as low as 9°C during the night.
  • Haridwar: Haridwar will see relatively mild temperatures compared to the hill regions, with a daytime high of 25°C and a night-time low of around 15°C. However, the cold breeze from the mountains may add to the chill.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

The Meteorological Department has indicated that the temperature will continue to drop as cold winds from the higher Himalayas start sweeping through the region. While no significant rain is forecast for the next few days, the early mornings and nights will become progressively colder, particularly in the hilly areas.

Precautions for Residents and Tourists

As the cold sets in, residents and tourists alike are advised to prepare for the cooler weather by layering up, especially when heading out in the early morning or evening. Those traveling to higher altitudes should be extra cautious and carry adequate winter clothing, as the weather in these regions can turn harsh quickly.
