Orange and Yellow Alerts for Heavy Rainfall in Uttarakhand Today, Exercise Caution

Noida 13 August 2024: Heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand today, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue orange and yellow alerts for various districts across the state. Residents are advised to exercise caution as the weather conditions may lead to significant disruptions.

Weather Alerts

The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, including Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Bageshwar, Champawat, and Nainital. This alert indicates that residents should prepare for severe weather, which could lead to travel disruptions and safety hazards. Additionally, a yellow alert has been declared for moderate to heavy rain in other areas of Uttarakhand.

Expected Conditions

The forecast predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and hail in various parts of the state. Isolated places may experience extremely intense rainfall, raising concerns about flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly regions.

Impact of Rainfall

As a result of the heavy rains, over 150 rural roads in Uttarakhand have already been blocked due to landslides, making travel difficult. The state government is working hard to clear these roads and restore access. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors during the worst of the weather.

Government Preparedness

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has activated the state administration to respond to the situation. He has assured that officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the army are on standby to assist in case of emergencies. The Chief Minister inspected the Disaster Control Room and emphasized the need for vigilance, especially for those traveling to pilgrimage sites.

Safety Measures

Authorities are urging residents to stay updated on weather conditions and heed any warnings issued by the IMD. It is crucial to have emergency kits ready and to know evacuation routes in case of severe weather impacts.
