Perplexity, a Silicon Valley AI startup, has set aside $42.5 million (₹372 crore) to pay publishers. This fund will reward publishers when their content is used by Perplexity's AI browser, Comet. Payments come from a new $5 monthly subscription called Comet Plus. Publishers earn money if their content is cited, visited, or used by AI agents on Comet. The company will give 80% of subscription revenue to publishers. This move aims to fairly pay publishers as AI changes how people find news online. Perplexity is also facing lawsuits from some publishers over copyright issues. The new model could help improve cooperation between AI firms and news publishers.
