There is a competition in the Indian telecom sector as to who will be the first to provide 5G to its users. Recently, DoT Department of Telecom has allotted spectrum to telecom operators for testing 5G service in India. At the same time, news has now surfaced that Bharti Airtel has made its 5G trial network live in the cyber hub of the Millennium City Gurgaon. 91Mobiles has got information about this matter from a familiar source. The site where Airtel has conducted 5G trials is operating in the 3500 MHz band as per the guidelines of the Department of Telecommunications and is giving a throughput of more than 1 Gbps.
To remind you that earlier this year, Airtel became the first telco in India to test 5G on a live network using liberalized spectrum in the 1800 MHz band. Apart from this, Airtel has been allotted 5G trial spectrum in Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru in 3500 MHz, 28 GHz and 700 MHz. The green antenna seen in the photo is of the existing 4G infrastructure. In the middle of this, it is being said about the white colored antenna that it is a 5G radio antenna with 3.5Ghz band.
Spectrum allotted to these telcos including Jio and Airtel for 5G trial
DoT has asked telecom operators to conduct 5G trials in urban areas as well as in rural and small towns, so that the benefit of 5G technology reaches the entire country. Let us tell you that DoT has issued a notification on May 4. In 2021, the applications of Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and MTNL were approved.
The department had clearly instructed these companies not to use the technology of Chinese companies. DoT had approved 5G trials with these companies along with Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung with the technology of C-Dot. Whereas, Reliance Jio Infocomm will trial 5G using its own technology.
Airtel with Qualcomm for 5G
Some time ago information was revealed that Airtel will start 5G service in India with the help of chipset maker Qualcomm. Airtel will use Qualcomm’s radio access network platform to provide 5G service to every user in India. Also, Qualcomm will play an important role in providing 5G fixed wireless access. Let us tell you that Airtel is planning to start RAN based 5G network in India using Qualcomm 5G RAN platform. With the help of this, high speed 5G service can be provided in homes and offices. However, no date has been revealed about it becoming official.
