40% Of Indian Chief Ministers Have Criminal Cases: ADR Report
Saralnama

Out of 30 Indian chief ministers, 12 (40%) have declared criminal cases against themselves, with 10 facing serious charges such as attempted murder, kidnapping, and bribery, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has the highest number of cases at 89. The report analyzed affidavits filed before the last elections and was released amid government proposals to disqualify leaders, including prime ministers and chief ministers, if held in custody for 30 days on serious criminal charges. ADR, an NGO founded in 1999 by IIM Ahmedabad professors and alumni, works to promote transparency and accountability in Indian politics by publicizing politicians' backgrounds, finances, and criminal records. The report highlights ongoing concerns about the criminalization of politics in India and coincides with other ADR findings on political party finances and election expenditures.
