Satish Golcha Appointed Delhi Police Commissioner After CM Attack

Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh was removed on August 21, 2025, a day after an attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public meeting. Senior IPS officer Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre officer and current Director General of Tihar Jail, was appointed as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi. The attacker, Rajeshbhai Khimji from Rajkot, was arrested and charged with attempted murder; he had previously been involved in multiple cases in Gujarat. The incident occurred on August 20, when the assailant pulled CM Gupta's hair and slapped her during a public hearing. Following the attack, the central government granted CM Gupta Z-category security with 22-25 CRPF personnel deployed for her protection. The attacker had conducted reconnaissance of the CM’s residence a day before the incident. The Delhi BJP alleged AAP involvement, which was denied by the party. CM Gupta described the attack as a cowardly attempt against public service and stated she was recovering from the shock. This is the latest in a series of attacks on Delhi’s chief ministers, including previous incidents involving Arvind Kejriwal. (Updated 22 Aug 2025, 02:23 IST; source: link)
