Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong expressed strong opposition to the United States' recent tariff measures against India, describing China as a partner in India's trade dispute with the US. Xu criticized the US for using tariffs as bargaining tools and stated that China firmly opposes the decision and will stand with India. Earlier in August, US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India's continued imports of Russian oil, raising total duties on some Indian exports to as high as 50%. Xu called for teamwork and collaboration between India and China, referring to them as the "double engines of Asia" essential for regional stability and growth. These remarks followed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Delhi, with Modi expected to visit China later in the year for the SCO leaders' meeting, despite ongoing border tensions in eastern Ladakh.
