Sandeep Shukla has taken over as the Director of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), succeeding P J Narayanan who led the institute for 12 years. Shukla, an expert in cybersecurity and cyber-physical systems, was previously a professor and co-director of the National Interdisciplinary Centre for Cyber Security and Cyber Defence of Critical Infrastructure at IIT Kanpur. He plans to focus on building a world-class cybersecurity research center at IIIT-H, expanding research in cybercrime investigation, Web3 and blockchain systems, and the application of generative and agentic AI in cybersecurity. Narayanan will continue as a faculty member at IIIT-H after stepping down. Shukla brings over 30 years of experience in cybersecurity and has held leadership roles at IIT Kanpur, including heading the Computer Science department and contributing to national cybersecurity initiatives. His appointment was announced during IIIT-H’s 24th convocation, where 529 students graduated across various programs.
