Since mid-August 2025, devastating flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have caused over 400 deaths in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, with Buner district reporting 225 fatalities and more than 180 injuries. The floods have destroyed infrastructure including bridges and roads, isolating many areas such as Upper South Waziristan. Rescue teams face challenges navigating mud and debris while ongoing rains continue to worsen conditions. The disaster compounds the region's vulnerability to climate-related events and strains national and provincial authorities still recovering from the 2022 super floods. The floods have also caused widespread displacement and damage to thousands of buildings across multiple districts. Authorities and relief organizations continue rescue and relief operations amid concerns about landslides and waterborne diseases. (Updated 20 Aug 2025, 18:02 IST; source: link)
