Since mid-August 2025, devastating flash floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains have caused over 400 deaths in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, with Buner district reporting 225 fatalities and more than 180 injuries. The floods have destroyed infrastructure including bridges and roads, isolating many areas such as Upper South Waziristan.
