Oracle Lays Off 10% Of Indian Workforce Amid Restructuring

Oracle has laid off nearly 10% of its workforce in India, affecting thousands of employees across major cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Noida, and Kolkata. The layoffs primarily impacted teams in software development, cloud services, and customer support. This move follows a recent meeting between Oracle CEO Larry Wilson and US President Donald Trump, where topics included domestic hiring, data security, and technology partnerships. Shortly after, Oracle announced a major partnership with OpenAI to process large volumes of AI data using Oracle’s infrastructure. Oracle described the job cuts as part of a global restructuring exercise. Similar layoffs have also occurred in the US, Canada, and Mexico. The timing of the layoffs has raised questions within the tech industry, with analysts linking the restructuring to Oracle’s strategic shift towards the US market and AI investments. The company employs nearly 28,824 people in India, making the scale of the layoffs significant. Oracle’s operations and workforce adjustments are ongoing amid broader industry trends of cost-cutting and realignment towards artificial intelligence development.
