The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Airports Authority of India's proposal to develop a Greenfield Airport at Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan, with an estimated cost of Rs 1507 crore. Kota, known as Rajasthan's industrial capital and an educational coaching hub, will have a new airport capable of handling A-321 type aircraft. The project includes a 20,000 sqm terminal building with a peak hour capacity of 1,000 passengers and an annual capacity of 2 million passengers, a 3200m x 45m runway, apron with seven parking bays, taxiways, ATC block, fire station, and parking facilities. The existing Kota Airport, owned by AAI, has limited capacity and cannot be expanded due to land constraints and urbanization. The new airport aims to support anticipated traffic growth in the region and enhance infrastructure to meet commercial operation needs. (Updated 19 Aug 2025, 20:56 IST; source: link)
