Noida News: Lack of Evidence Leads to Acquittal in Mobile Theft Case

1 min read

Greater Noida, Sep 30, 2025 — The Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court has acquitted Mahesh Kumar, accused in a 2019 mobile theft case, citing lack of evidence.

The court observed that the prosecution failed to prove the charges beyond reasonable doubt. On this basis, the accused was given the benefit of doubt and declared not guilty.

The case was registered at Phase-2 Police Station. According to the prosecution, on October 14, 2019, police arrested three men behind an HDFC Bank on a tip-off, recovering seven mobile phones.

Police claimed the accused, including Mahesh Kumar, were planning to sell stolen mobile phones and e-rickshaw batteries. After investigation, a chargesheet was filed against Praveen alias Karn, Rajesh Kumar, and Mahesh Kumar.

However, the court ruled that the prosecution could not establish that the seized phones were stolen property, nor could it prove any prior conviction of the accused for similar offences.

The verdict highlights the importance of solid evidence in criminal trials to ensure justice
