June 7, 2023, Noida: In November 2023, a woman from Noida faced a distressing situation when her expensive lehenga was returned from a dry cleaner in a damaged state. Smita Jyoti had entrusted her beautiful lehenga to a dry cleaning shop owned by Parvez, located in Omex The Forest Society, Sector-92, Noida. After six days, the lehenga came back with multiple cuts and large stains, rendering it unwearable.
Seeking Justice
Determined to get justice, Smita approached the District Consumer Forum. She filed a complaint against Parvez for negligence and poor service. The forum, presided over by Anil Kumar Pundir and Anju Sharma, took up the case. Smita’s lawyer, Aditya Kumar Bhati, presented clear evidence of the damage and the emotional distress caused.
Court’s Decision
The consumer court ruled in favor of Smita, ordering Parvez to pay Rs. 75,000 as compensation for the lehenga and Rs. 5,000 for litigation expenses. The court emphasized that the compensation must be paid within three days.
“This judgment serves as a reminder to service providers about the importance of delivering quality and care in their services. It also reassures consumers that their grievances will be addressed promptly and justly,” said Anil Kumar Pundir.
This case highlights the need for accountability and quality in customer service. It also showcases the effectiveness of consumer forums in addressing grievances. Smita Jyoti‘s pursuit of justice sets a positive example, emphasizing the importance of standing up for one’s rights.
