June 7, 2024, Noida: Noida is experiencing frequent power cuts lasting 4 to 6 hours daily, causing significant inconvenience for residents. The rising summer temperatures have overloaded power lines, leading to cable burnouts and transformer fires.
Power Cuts Plague Noida
Various sectors in Noida, including Sector-71, 72, 108, 80, 82, Gejha, and surrounding villages, are affected by these outages. The situation has been ongoing, with incidents reported as recently as Tuesday night and during the day.
Resident Complaints
Gautam, a resident of Sector-108, expressed his frustration: “I lodged several complaints with the control room after the power went out around 11 pm.” Pawan, from Sector-71, added, “There was a power cut for three to four hours during the day on Tuesday.”
Electricity Department’s Response
Nandlal, the Superintending Engineer of the electricity department, responded to these concerns: “Uninterrupted power supply is being provided to the consumers. No major disruption complaints have been received. It is true that power cuts happen in case of faults, but currently, uninterrupted power supply is being provided.”
Technical Challenges
The primary cause of these power cuts is the overloading of power lines due to increased electricity consumption during the summer months. This has led to frequent cable burnouts and transformer fires across various sectors, complicating the situation.
Impact on Daily Life
The ongoing power cuts are severely affecting the daily lives of Noida’s residents. Many are struggling to manage without electricity for extended periods, especially during peak heat hours. The frequent outages are not only causing discomfort but also disrupting work and daily routines.
As Noida continues to endure the sweltering summer, the residents’ patience is wearing thin. While the electricity department claims to be providing an uninterrupted supply, the reality of frequent outages tells a different story. The need for a more robust and reliable power infrastructure has never been more urgent, as the city grapples with the twin challenges of rising temperatures and escalating electricity demand.
