Tamil actor Ajith Kumar admits to sleeping for less than four hours-‘Just last

2 min read

Tamil actor Ajith Kumar recently opened up about his demanding schedule that leaves him with very little time to rest. The 54-year-old actor, who is also a passionate racing enthusiast, revealed that he sometimes sleeps for less than four hours a night. He even mentioned sleeping just two hours one recent night. Ajith explained that multiple responsibilities keep him awake, including managing his film career, arranging projects, and his involvement in racing. Racing is an expensive sport, and without sponsors, he works hard to knock on doors and secure support. He aims to invest back into the sport rather than enhance personal wealth, believing it holds great potential for drivers, brands, and manufacturers. Medical experts point out that while some people appear to function on minimal sleep due to genetics or discipline, most individuals require seven to nine hours for long-term health and well-being.

Why Some People Function on Less Sleep

Dr Aarti Ullal, a physician and diabetologist at Gleneagles Hospital Parel, Mumbai, explained that some individuals manage well on four to six hours of sleep nightly. This ability often stems from genetics, lifestyle habits, and adaptability. However, for most people, consistently sleeping less than seven hours can lead to fatigue, mood swings, and reduced focus, even if immediate effects are not obvious. Those who cope on less sleep typically have strong motivation, disciplined routines, and efficient sleep quality, reaching deep restorative stages faster. Healthy diets, regular exercise, stress management, and consistent sleep schedules further improve sleep efficiency. Despite appearing functional, chronic sleep deprivation raises risks of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and weakened immunity over time.
