Actor Mini Mathur recently shared a protein-rich uttapam recipe on Instagram for people who dislike drinking protein shakes and prefer incorporating the powder into meals. The recipe, originally given to her by a friend, combines one scoop of protein powder, one scoop of psyllium husk (isabgol), one tablespoon of soaked chia seeds, spinach, coriander, egg white, and spices. The batter is shallow-fried in ghee until golden brown and crispy. Health experts highlight the nutritional benefits of the key ingredients. Isabgol is a soluble fibre that aids digestion and relieves constipation when consumed with adequate water. Chia seeds provide slow-release energy, improve digestion, and support heart health due to their omega-3 fatty acids. Both ingredients promote fullness, aiding weight control. The recipe also incorporates protein powder for muscle needs, while spinach and coriander add fibre and iron. Ghee provides healthy fats, making this uttapam a balanced, nutrient-dense meal option.

Dr Vikas Jindal from CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, explained that isabgol absorbs water and forms a gel-like substance in the gut, softening stool and promoting regular bowel movements. It is particularly beneficial for chronic constipation but must be taken with at least 240 ml of water to avoid worsening constipation or causing blockages. Chia seeds are rich in fibre, supporting healthy digestion and regulating bowel movements. They provide slow-release energy through protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates. Their omega-3 fatty acids benefit heart health by lowering bad cholesterol. Both isabgol and chia seeds expand in the stomach, promoting fullness and aiding weight control.
