‘Did we do something? Does God not love us?’: Sunny Leone opens up losing 4 — —

2 min read

Bollywood actor Sunny Leone recently shared her emotional journey of pregnancy loss on Soha Ali Khan's podcast All About Her. The mother of three children, Nisha, Noah, and Asher, revealed that she and her husband faced heartbreak when they lost four pregnancies in a short span. The couple was expecting four girls and two boys, but within a week, they learned that four of them would not survive. One pregnancy involved a blighted ovum, where the pregnancy sac was empty and the baby could not develop. Devastated by the losses, Leone questioned if they had done something wrong or if they were not loved by God. This difficult experience led the couple to pursue adoption, welcoming their daughter Nisha into their family. Leone emphasized that they tell Nisha she chose them as parents, making adoption a beautiful part of their story.

Understanding Blighted Ovum and Its Causes

A blighted ovum, also known as an anembryonic pregnancy, occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterus but the embryo fails to develop. The pregnancy sac and placenta may continue growing briefly, producing pregnancy hormones that cause symptoms like missed periods or nausea. This condition typically happens in the first few weeks and is a common cause of early miscarriage. Dr N Sapna Lulla from Aster CMI Hospital explains that the main cause is chromosomal abnormalities in the egg or sperm, preventing proper embryo development. It is not caused by anything the woman did. The body may naturally expel the tissue, or medical intervention like medication or dilation and curettage may be needed. Most women recover and can have healthy pregnancies afterward.
