Veteran actor Satish Shah passed away on Saturday, October 25, at the age of 74 due to kidney failure. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news, stating that Shah fell ill suddenly at home on Saturday afternoon and was rushed to Mumbai's Hinduja Hospital, where doctors declared him dead despite resuscitation efforts. Shah had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this year and was on dialysis. His friend, actor Sachin Pilgaonkar, revealed that Shah wanted to extend his life to care for his wife, Madhu, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Known for his comic timing, Shah appeared in popular shows and films like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, and Main Hoon Na. His sudden passing highlights the serious risks of kidney failure and the importance of early detection and management of kidney health.

Understanding Kidney Failure and Prevention
Kidney failure occurs when kidneys lose their ability to filter waste and maintain fluid balance. Dr Jagadish Hiremath, a public health expert, explains that toxins accumulate in the bloodstream, affecting the heart, bones, and blood cells. Damage progresses silently, especially in people with diabetes or high blood pressure. Early symptoms include tiredness, swelling in feet or ankles, frequent nighttime urination, foamy urine, nausea, and uncontrolled blood pressure. Maintaining kidney health requires managing diabetes and blood pressure, eating a balanced diet with less salt, staying active, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol, and limiting painkiller use. Routine blood and urine tests enable early detection, potentially preventing kidney failure and the need for dialysis or transplant.
