North Korean leader Kim Jong Un arrived in Beijing aboard his signature green bulletproof train to attend a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The event is hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who are also attending. Kim’s train journey from Pyongyang to Beijing takes about 20 hours, traveling through North Korea’s Pyongui Line and crossing into China at Dandong. The heavily armored train, equipped with modern communication and security features, travels at speeds of 45 km/h in North Korea and up to 80 km/h in China. This visit follows Kim’s 2023 trip to Moscow on the same train. The parade highlights the strengthening ties among North Korea, China, and Russia amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including allegations by the US and South Korea that North Korea has supported Russia’s war in Ukraine. Kim is accompanied by senior officials, including Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui. The journey underscores the historical and political significance of North Korea-China relations and the leaders’ cooperation on the international stage. (Updated 2 Sep 2025, 16:31 IST; source: link)
