Heavy Rainfall Triggers Flood Alerts and Disruptions in Delhi-NCR
Saralnama

Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are experiencing heavy rainfall with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for Delhi-NCR, including Noida, Gurugram, and Ghaziabad. Temperatures are around 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, with continuous rain expected through the week accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The Yamuna River has risen above the danger mark due to upstream discharge from Haryana’s Hathini Kund Barrage, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and the closure of Loha Pul from 5 pm on September 2. Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate and have prepared emergency measures, including relocating livestock and monitoring river embankments. The Punjab government has extended school closures until September 3 due to flooding. The monsoon season, characterized by seasonal wind shifts bringing moisture and rainfall, continues to affect northern India, with heavy to very heavy rainfall also forecast in Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The situation has caused significant public movement challenges and ongoing flood preparedness efforts across the region. (Updated 2 Sep 2025, 11:03 IST; source: link)
