Nine districts in Punjab are currently affected by severe flooding, with residents staying on rooftops using tents for shelter. Various groups and individuals are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations, distributing essentials like water, food, fodder, petrol, tarpaulins, and boats. The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Federation has been working overnight to reinforce flood embankments by filling sandbags. Local volunteers, including halwai Bunti Singh Dalla, have suspended their businesses to assist in evacuations using boats. Manjot Singh of Nawab Deep Singh Seva Dal has helped relocate people to safer areas, while Dr. Subhash in Amritsar has distributed candles to provide light amid power outages. Punjabi singer Jass Bajwa has also offered support to flood victims, including helping an elderly man replace lost livestock. The floods have submerged homes and farmland, with some houses developing cracks and at risk of collapse. The situation remains critical as communities continue to cope with rising water levels and ongoing rescue efforts. (Updated 2 Sep 2025, 05:25 IST; source: link)
