India Inaugurates One of First Semiconductor OSAT Pilot Lines in Sanand

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated one of India’s first end-to-end Semiconductor Outsourced Assembly and Test (OSAT) pilot line facilities by CG Power in Sanand on August 28, 2025. The facility, part of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) which has approved ten projects so far, aims to advance semiconductor design, manufacturing, and downstream capabilities in India. The pilot line will produce chips for customer qualification, facilitating commercial production starting in 2026. CG Semi is investing over Rs 7,600 crore to build two facilities, G1 and G2, with G1 operating at a peak capacity of 0.5 million units per day and G2 expected to reach 14.5 million units per day by the end of 2026. The plants will generate over 5,000 jobs and offer advanced chip assembly, packaging, and testing services. The initiative is supported by government partnerships with 270 universities providing semiconductor design tools, used over 1.2 crore times in 2025, and training programs for engineers. CG Semi is a joint venture involving CG Power, Renesas Electronics, and Stars Microelectronics, targeting sectors including automotive, defense, infrastructure, and IoT.
