Chennai’s Thiru Vi Ka Nagar Bus Terminus Redeveloped With Steel Roofs

The Thiru Vi Ka Nagar bus terminus in north Chennai has been redeveloped under the Metropolitan Transport Corporation Bus Terminus Improvement Project at a cost of ₹6 crore. The facility, serving thousands from Kolathur, Perambur, and Agaram, now features pre-engineered steel roofs designed to resemble trees. Spread over 21,000 sq.ft with a built-up area of 3,400 sq.ft, the terminus includes amenities such as a waiting hall, seating for 40, a breastfeeding room, washrooms, and dedicated spaces for bus crew and management. It also incorporates accessibility features for persons with disabilities. The terminus has four bays accommodating 12 buses and operates over 50 buses on seven routes. The redevelopment was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and has received positive feedback on social media. However, some residents have raised concerns about space constraints due to new shops on platforms, causing commuters to stand in bus bays and some buses to park outside, leading to traffic issues on SRP Koil Street. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority confirmed the modernization was completed last year. (Updated 29 Aug 2025, 01:04 IST; source: link)
