Two Centuries Old Swayambhu Karyasiddhi Vigneshwara Temple in Chodavaram

The Swayambhu Karyasiddhi Vigneshwara Temple in Chodavaram, Anakapalli district, is over 200 years old and houses a self-originated Lord Ganesh idol discovered during pond desilting. Villagers built a shrine around the half-exposed idol, worshipping it as Karyasiddhi, the fulfiller of deeds. The Andhra Pradesh Endowment Department took over temple administration in 2001, after which annual revenues exceeded ₹43 lakh, enabling facility upgrades including a spacious Kalyana Mandapam built in 2002. The temple has expanded amenities for pilgrims such as resting areas, drinking water, and parking. The idol’s adornments have grown over time, with the crown size increasing from 75 grams of silver ninety years ago to a 2-kilogram solid crown today. Devotees observe special pujas during Vinayaka Navratri, wearing white garments and vermilion scarves, performing rituals with the Ganesha Mala for 11, 21, or 41 consecutive days before Chavithi, seeking blessings for success, health, and prosperity. The temple administration anticipates more enthusiastic celebrations in the upcoming Navratri season. (Updated 28 Aug 2025, 23:48 IST; source: link)
