Ahmedabad Customs seized 4 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana worth around ₹4 crore from a trolley bag belonging to Niteshwari Ratanlal Gill, a Jalandhar resident, who arrived from Bangkok on August 13 via Air Asia. Upon arrival, she reported two missing bags and left after filing a claim. One bag was cleared after inspection, but the second bag, found later, contained eight packets of marijuana concealed in tape and clothing. Customs contacted Niteshwari to collect the bag, but she refused and authorized a driver from Jalandhar to collect it. Suspicious of her evasion, Customs involved the CID Crime Branch and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. Mobile tracking revealed she remained near Ahmedabad’s Kalupur railway station, where she was detained. The trolley bag was seized in her presence, and the case was handed over to the Narcotics Cell. The seizure highlights ongoing drug smuggling concerns at Ahmedabad airport involving international routes. The investigation continues with multiple agencies involved.
