The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) plans to install eight additional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along the 94.5 km Pune–Mumbai expressway, increasing the total from five to thirteen. A study to identify suitable locations for the new stations is underway, with installations expected to begin by the end of 2025. Another study is being conducted to assess the volume of EVs using the highway, as current records are unavailable. The expressway sees an average daily traffic of 1.4 lakh vehicles. The state government recently exempted EVs from tolls on this route, Samruddhi Mahamarg, and Atal Setu. Maharashtra has over 5.58 lakh registered EVs according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The expansion of charging infrastructure aims to support the growing number of EV users and facilitate long-distance travel on the expressway. (Updated 27 Aug 2025, 14:39 IST; source: link)
