The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police arrested Amarjit Shukla, owner of Mid City Heights, on August 23 for allegedly cheating residents of a redevelopment project on Yari Road, Versova, involving Rs 55 crore. Shukla was remanded to EOW custody twice for three days each by the Esplanade Court. Mid City Heights had assured 13 residents, owning 14 flats, of new homes within a specified timeframe. However, before project completion, the builder allegedly sold several flats to third parties without residents’ consent. When the promised homes were delayed, residents investigated and discovered the alleged fraud. Following their complaint, a case was registered at Versova Police Station for cheating and criminal breach of trust under the Indian Penal Code. The EOW took over the investigation, leading to Shukla’s arrest. (Updated 26 Aug 2025, 05:46 IST; source: link)
