A suspected arson attack occurred on August 22 at the Indian Aroma restaurant in East London's Gants Hill area, seriously injuring five people. CCTV footage showed individuals with covered faces pouring liquid inside the restaurant before it was set ablaze. Five diners—three women and two men—suffered burn injuries; two remain in life-threatening condition. Firefighters rescued five people, while nine others escaped before emergency services arrived. A 15-year-old boy and a 54-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remain in police custody. The Metropolitan Police continue their investigation and have urged the public to provide any information. The London Fire Brigade is also investigating the cause of the fire.
