India Warns Pakistan of Fresh Cross-Border Flood Risk Amid Monsoon Deluge
Saralnama

India has issued a second warning within weeks to Pakistan about potential cross-border flooding due to heavy monsoon rains causing rivers, especially the Sutlej, to swell and overflow into Pakistan's Punjab province. The warning was conveyed on humanitarian grounds through India's High Commission in Islamabad, despite the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions following the April 2025 Pahalgam attack. Pakistan's Punjab has seen over 1 million people evacuated and more than 2.4 million affected by recent floods, with the nationwide monsoon death toll surpassing 880. Indian authorities also reported flooding and landslides in northern states, including Punjab and Delhi, where the Yamuna River crossed danger levels. The warnings aim to mitigate further loss of life and property as heavy rains continue to impact both countries. (Updated 3 Sep 2025, 08:24 IST; source: link)
