Today, the Election Commission (EC) has asked West Bengal's Chief Secretary and District Election Officers to prepare for electoral roll revision. On 27 Aug 2025, CEO Manoj Agarwal sent letters urging immediate filling of vacant posts of Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant EROs. The Assembly polls are scheduled for March-April 2026. A meeting with political parties is planned on 29 Aug 2025 to discuss the revision. The EC emphasized strict adherence to rules, warning against delegation of duties and fraudulent voter registration, following recent suspensions of officials linked to fake voter allegations. Chief Secretary Manoj Pant directed all vacant posts to be filled by 29 Aug 2025. The move follows controversy over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar and political opposition in Bengal. The EC aims to start the revision by early September 2025 if needed. (Updated 28 Aug 2025, 14:55 IST; source: link)
