The Karnataka government formed the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) on 26 Aug 2025. The GBA will coordinate between five new city corporations starting 2 Sep. Chief Minister will chair the GBA, and Bengaluru Development Minister will be co-chair. M. Maheshwar Rao, former BBMP Chief Commissioner, is named GBA Chief Commissioner. The GBA has 75 members, including MLAs, MPs, mayors, and heads of city agencies. It aims to improve coordination among corporations and parastatals like BMTC and BMRCL. The GBA will not interfere in corporation affairs but will balance revenue among them. Some bodies like the Rail Infrastructure Development Company are not part of the GBA. This new authority replaces BBMP and focuses on better city governance. (Updated 26 Aug 2025, 21:39 IST; source: link)
