Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on August 24, 2025, ending a career that included 103 Test matches and 7,193 runs. Pujara, who last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship final, decided to retire after considering the timing for about a week. He expressed pride in representing India and gratitude toward teammates and support staff. Pujara joins other Indian cricketers who retired in 2025, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who both retired from Test cricket in May, Piyush Chawla, who retired from all formats in June, and Varun Aaron, who retired in January. Pujara cited the importance of giving opportunities to the next generation as a key reason for his decision. He finished as India's eighth-highest Test run-scorer with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries. Since his last international appearance, he continued playing domestic cricket for Saurashtra. His retirement marks the end of an era for Indian Test cricket. (Updated 25 Aug 2025, 12:32 IST; source: link)
