Netflix will release the crime drama Inspector Zende on September 5, 2025, starring Manoj Bajpayee as Mumbai police officer Madhukar Zende. The film, directed by Chinmay D. Mandlekar, depicts Zende’s pursuit of Carl Bhojraj, a character based on the notorious serial killer Charles Sobhraj, known as the “Bikini Killer.” Jim Sarbh plays Bhojraj, who escaped from Tihar Jail in 1986 by drugging guards during a staged party. The story follows the police operation that led to Sobhraj’s arrest in 1970s and 1980s Mumbai. The cast also includes Bhalchandra Kadam, Sachin Khedekar, Girija Oak, and Harish Dudhade. Produced by Om Raut and Jay Shewakramani, the film draws from Zende’s memoir and previous documentaries about his career. The trailer released on August 25 shows a gritty portrayal of pre-digital Mumbai and the cat-and-mouse chase between the cop and criminal. Inspector Zende will stream exclusively on Netflix.
